Atelier Data. Sítio da Lezíria. Alcácer do Sal. Portugal
January 09, 2014
The site is a former farmland with an area of roughly 14 hectares containing two buildings: the main farmhouse and the stables. The project involved introducing a new residential use for the former stables and it was an opportunity to see how old containing structures, of seemingly little architectural value, could serve to house new lifestyles. One of the underlying principles for this conversion of old horse stables was to conserve the structural logic in place. The original walls were preserved and above all, the new programme was implemented following the circulation axis which lies in the centre of the two strips of horse stalls.
