Fabre Demarien. Passage Buhan. Bordeaux. France
January 03, 2014
Converting this former garage into a dwelling meant resolving the issue of the single street-front. As this was a 41 m2 space, going back 9 m and with a 6 m wide facade, it was necessary to clear part of the build to increase areas for ventilation and lighting. The solution was to build a 4 x 2.20 m courtyard which the rooms would look onto. The exterior facade is a wooden skin which affords both privacy and safety while the facades looking onto the courtyard function as a flexible skin which facilitates not only links between interior and exterior but also enhances the relationship between opening and built area.
