Boven Bouw. Borgerhout transit house. Antwerp. Belgium
December 11, 2013
This three-storey house is a temporary shelter for the homeless. The main action was to incorporate new insulated panelling lining the outer walls. The work carried out is only visible at these points. The rest: supporting walls and ceilings have had their covering removed and are left bare. Contrast is what is valued, the roughness of the building elements versus the smooth framing of the new coverings which increase the heat efficiency of the envelope. The partitions and interior walls clearly reveal their material nature.
