De Vylder Vinck Taillieu and Trice Hofkens. House Ovo I. Ghent. Belgium
December 12, 2013
With a very low budget the architects converted a simple four-room row house into a vertical succession of open spaces with natural light flowing through them. The intervention involved removing the interior partitions and fitting new timber beams and a structure of props which reinforces the existing system of joists. The bathroom is located in the space below the roof and a storage area has been installed in the basement meaning the roof could come off the courtyard building leaving the open space as a courtyard. All plumbing and wiring is left exposed. The client carried out the work.
