The aim of this development was to create a focus of attention in this area of the city, located in a residential area 1.5 km from the centre. A semi-covered shopping street is the base on which the blocks for housing and offices are built. The public space is formed by pedestrian passageways and a scenic riverside. The action of densification foreseen in its day contrasts with the intervention carried out recently in the neighbouring plot, where the change in criteria regarding land occupan.

The former goods terminal contained a main building with one floor with a face brick finish. Reusing the facade involved replacing the original factory brick with a much lighter brick. Metal elements were used, along with fixed glass windows. An intermediate framework was built and the roof level was raised.

The new retail front has the area buzzing with activity and ensures the permeability of the infrastructure with frequent wide and safe access points to the pedestrian viaduct and pedestrian walkways between the neighbourhoods it used to separate. Part of a former railway line has been made into a walkway and alongside an overhanging observation deck has been installed. The floor is wooden decking and large benches are set 30 cm above the level of the path. The few existing lamp posts have been replaced by wallwashers throughout the route, while the benches have had embedded down-lighting installed.

The project for this mixed-use tower block aimed to rebuild an urban space destroyed by the 1943 bombing. The town planning regulations of the time foresaw a low-rise office building which was to occupy the whole plot. The BBPR decision was to allocate part of the plot as public space, add a small volume incorporating accesses and retail and build 28 levels.

Following the demolition of the constructions and the recovery of the setting as a nature park, the road network was adapted for limited visitor circulation. The main road (2 km) was reduced to a single 3.5 metre section and was uniformly resurfaced with asphalt. Only two roads which divided the beach have been taken up and replaced by one single road further away.

The section type of the reused road comprises two steel lateral profiles between which the asphalt surfacing is laid out..

These three dwelling units serve as accommodation for employees of the mining company which runs this coal-mining enclave at the gateway to the North Pole. The project affords a comfortable space which responds to the harsh living conditions in a place where the polar night runs from October through to February.

The wood cladding has been painted red according to the regulations of the Norwegian government concerning this enclave. In fact, the colour of the facades in Longyearbyen is .
