403 Architecture. The Grid of Santen. Hamamatsu. Japan
January 29, 2014
The project involved building a staff break booth inside a hairdressing salon using only recycled materials. For this reason, the architects decided to invert the project process: firstly they reclaimed the materials from a derelict loft located in the same apartment block as the project location: from the recycled elements - the timber from the structure and floorboards - they drew the parts using CAD. They laid out the parts in a nearby garage, transferring the CAD drawing to the real space and this way they were able to check dimensions and decide how to use each part. The old beams were used for flooring, the boards became lattice panels and the former joists became the new beams for the structure.
