De Vylder Vinck Taillieu. House Rampelken. Ghent. Belgium
December 12, 2013
This work involved rebuilding a house and a workshop for two artists. The dwelling (shown in a+t magazine n. 41) has not undergone many alterations. However, according to the architects “it needed extra stability” in order to establish connections between the different rooms. The original structure has been altered, new openings are made and load-bearing elements are incorporated, unifying the whole work with one single material, concrete blocks, which are used to cover beams, to build partition walls and which has a constant visual presence. Their material nature and texture link all the spaces in the dwelling.
