Jonathan Tuckey. Frame house. London

December 11, 2013

Jonathan Tuckey. Frame house. London

The original function of these 19th Century buildings was to service the nearby Holland Park villas and often the ground floors were used as stables meaning that there was direct access to the first floor of the dwelling from the outside. In the 20th century they were occupied as workshops and private housing and lost their original layout. In this intervention the function of the ground floor as a “stable” is reclaimed to house a collection of motorcycles and the entrance is built leading directly to the first floor where the living area is located. The original timber structures are left bare and an interior staircase is added at the rear.
