De Vylder Vinck Taillieu and Trice Hofkens. House DVH. Ghent. Belgium
December 11, 2013
This work involved renovating a former industrial unit, located near the downtown area, by converting it to a dwelling and an office. The architects planned several sequences of programme and perception which maintain the continuum between interior and exterior. At the south end there is a glazed terrace (a veranda) which acts as a passive solar collector. Interior and exterior are divided by large glazed sliding doors. Standard glazed greenhouse elements are used throughout for compartmentalization.
The different sizes of sliding doors allow for heat control and different options for using the spaces.
