Projects for the adaptable city (12)
April 05, 2013
Jeavons Landscape Architects. Clifton Hill railway. Melbourne. Australia
Europan 12 proposes to explore the question of time with a view to making the city more adaptable. One of the sites proposed by the organization is Amstetten (Austria).
If you are working on a project for this site, have a look at the project of Clifton Hill railway, by Jeavons Landscape Architects. The increase in rail traffic on one of the railway lines linking Melbourne city centre with the northern suburbs made it necessary to double the capacity leading to the installation of a new railway line running parallel. The historic structure has been preserved and restored. This line duplication served to bring about the regeneration of the space alongside the infrastructure. The project includes environmentally upgrading the railway corridor and introducing new uses. Furthermore, the crossing areas have been renewed and the circulation for pedestrians and cyclists in the surroundings improved.
