A former farmhouse in a rural setting was converted into a living space by a process involving exchanging open spaces. For this, part of the existing buildings was demolished, preserving only those walls furthest away from the central open space. This way a protective perimeter was created from the existing walls which mark out the site. At the centre of this open space a new timber-framed rectangular building with a glazed exterior has been incorporated. The walls of the former farmhouse have now become mere perimeter walls framing the new dwelling. The interior spaces in the old buildings are cleared and the outer walls of the farmhouse shelter the light glazed construction placed in its centre.
