De Vylder Vinck Taillieu. House Berk Beek Schauw. Melle. Belgium
December 11, 2013
The approach to this conversion was to extend out the kitchen and work spaces. The plane of the existing facade has been perforated with four large openings and has been extended out into the garden by building two large glazed boxes onto its exterior plane. Material has been removed from the original facade to establish more intimate links with the exterior. The boxes have been made using sandwich panel with a painted wood finish on the sides and a zinc-coated roof. The double-glazed kitchen window has had frosted glass fitted into the lower section. The existing drainpipe has been re-routed to the corner of the building so that it does not run down through the extension.
