Congratulations to Langarita Navarro on the Emerging Architect Special Mention received from the Mies van der Rohe Award 2013 for the Matadero Music Academy (Madrid, Spain).
About the project:
Matadero Unit 15 was programmed along with Unit 16 to house an art collection. When the initiative was abandoned by the developers and the budget was cut, this space was removed from the programme for works of art. In early 2012, a private sponsor accepted the Madrid City Council proposal to install a temporary music production on the site. In spite of lack of available time and resources to execute the works, the initiative was highly successful and was to leave behind it a new space for sound production.
