Before and After. Massó distillery. Núria Salvadó + David Tapias. Reus. Spain
May 03, 2013
Until the dawn of the 19th Century Reus was the second largest city in Catalonia. Its urban grid was laid out to join the medieval town with the mainline station of one of the first railway lines in Spain. The industrial units of the Massó distillery and the Corts blinds factory occupy half of one of the blocks in the urban grid. The other half is now a site set aside for residential use, awaiting the arrival of new housing units. In addition to the refurbishment of the existing building there is also its extension over the courtyard whose design is based on the need to protect the site from the views from the forthcoming constructions.
Reclaim, the latest issue of a+t magazine, includes a chapter entitled Before & After. It presents the general background to each project and the graphic information of that existing before each intervention. It is a summary of the situations at the starting point and the results obtained at a given time.
