DBOOK. Examples on density (3)
December 14, 2011
The graphs shown here analyze the BIG+JDS project in Copenhagen. This project joins the main ideas that characterise the Orestad urban plan, a variety of uses, vertical distribution of collective spaces and the elimination of parking spaces on the lot. The authors pay homage to l'Unité d'Habitation inside two transparent boxes whose creation is justified with a fragile diagram of visual axes. They do this by carefully using corridors that access different types of homes, which are developed at different levels. The effort to diversify the collective open or closed spaces and to individualise each apartment is remarkable, as there are at least 16 different types.
a+t research group carried out an exhaustive analysis in the publication Dbook on collective housing’s contribution to the dense city covering 64 projects. Based on indicators such as floor area ratio, population density, building volumes, heights and uses, a comparative analysis giving examples of dense living was attained. With this forthcoming series of posts we would like to show some of the most significant examples contained in the book.
The data displayed in the diagrams refers to the comparative analysis of all the projects included in Dbook.
