West Seoul is home to most of the industry in the metropolitan area and for years was renowned for its low living standards. The area is also affected by the proximity of Gimpo Airport which has a high level of air traffic.
The Sinwol water treatment plant was built in 1959 on the border between Seoul and the satellite town Bucheon and until 2003 it supplied drinking water to the western metropolitan area. Reclaiming the site as a public park seeks to regenerate the area and improve the living standards of local residents with a mix of culture, ecology and connectivity.
Reclaim, the latest issue of a+t magazine, includes a chapter entitled Before & After. It presents the general background to each project and the graphic information of that existing before each intervention. It is a summary of the situations at the starting point and the results obtained at a given time.
