Basurama. Temporary Amusement Park. Lima. Peru
May 23, 2012
The RUS (Solid Urban Waste) project is an initiative promoted by Basurama financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Aid (AECID). The RUS Lima project was launched in 2010 following the previous experiences in eight other cities in the continent. Lima is the victim of urban planning which has been overwhelmed by reality, indiscriminate informal growth and a non-existent public transport network where public space is in a process of being abandoned and becoming run-down. The project led to the recovery of the space beneath the works for the elevated electric railway in the Surquillo district, during a period when the works were paralysed. Several collectives and local artists networked to demand the abandoned infrastructure become an elevated linear park, converting it for two weeks into a small Amusement Park.
