Rubio&Álvarez-Sala. SyV Tower. Madrid

Rubio&Álvarez-Sala. SyV Tower. Madrid

Guided by some of the members of the Rubio&Álvarez-Sala team, we visited the Torre SyV building, included in the issue a+t 31 Hybrids I. High-rise Mixed use Buildings.

The building forms part of an operation that has transformed the profile of the city. Unfortunately, the urban plan contains practically no mixing of uses, turning into an isolated block without services or relation with the rest of the urban fabric. Only the future International Convention Centre, under construction in the same block, published in the issue a+t 32 Hybrids II. Low-rise Mixed-use Buildings, will provide the area with public functions.

The result is a slender tower made up of three vertical curved bodies that end at different heights. The cross section is divided into a lower section of hotel and another above it that contains offices. On the façade, the traditional curtain wall was replaced by a ventilated chamber system between slabs, with an outer scaly skin that diminishes wind friction and protects from the sun and an inner one that ensures water tightness and noise protection.
