The urban plan of Richti Quartier, into which the building is inserted, is the work of Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani, and the condition for the design was that stone be used as the material for the facade. However, Wiel Arets chose to subvert this rule and to replace the stone with a representation of this element. In this way, the planned stone facade of this office building became a glass curtain-wall with a silk screen print representing the veins of the onyx used in the 1929 International Exposition thereby paying homage to Mies van der Rohe’s use of this material in Barcelona.
