Riches Hawley Mikhail Architects. 180 dwellings in Luton. United Kingdom
March 19, 2011
The project consists of 180 residential units in a run-down suburb of the satellite town of Luton. The brief asks how flats could be as desirable as houses for families in a high-density suburban scheme.
Referencing Scandinavian models of shared communal space, the project proposes two private shared gardens that form the centre of the new community. In these spaces there could be barbeques, sheltered picnic tables and areas for growing vegetables, all directly accessed from your home.
