FÜNDC. Dwellings in Bloemenbuurt Zuid. Eindhoven. The Netherlands
March 18, 2011
A whole neighbourhood of Eindhoven, Bloemenbuurt Zuid, is obsolete and going to be demolished: the built tissue is in poor conservation state and the housing typologies are not fitting today’s dissimilar family sizes needs.
The industrial essence of the city must blend with its agricultural past. Several gatherings were conducted to explore the desires of the existing inhabitants which can keep living in the renewed neighbourhood, if they wish.
The motto “every house with a garden” has been accepted by municipality and inhabitants. But the only way of integrating program, plot size and the private garden common wish is to propose a new housing typology with elevated gardens which would allow for an increment in the amount of dwellings while doubling the open space.
