Nicolas Michelin. Grand Large-Neptune. Dunkirk. France
September 08, 2012
The plan Grand Large by Nicolas Michelin is set around a ha park and foresees the construction of about 1,000 dwellings. The street layout provides shelter from the prevailing winds, and the traffic is limited to loading and unloading which favours pedestrian transit. The plan aims to meet the conditions of the United Nations Agenda 21, puts emphasis on the mixing of users of different social backgrounds and responds to strong demands concerning the environment and the optimization of resources. The sector which has already been finished includes different types of housing within 3 building types: row housing around a semi-circular park, blocks of three-storey collective housing with flat landscaped roofs, and others of up to 6 storeys topped with an inclined roof which are the distinguishing feature of the intervention.
