Jakob + MacFarlane. Docks de Paris
June 04, 2009
Project published in a+t 32. HYBRIDS II. Low-rise Mixed-use Buildings.
This project proposes the conservation of the existing concrete structure in the former Paris harbour. The building, admired by Le Corbusier in his day, looks to revitalise this area on the banks of the Seine, and will be connected to the new quarter Seine Rive Gauche.
This new quarter is located very nearby, inside the framework of a strategy that tends to maintain and dynamise the industrial and port legacy of the area. The existing spaces will hold new uses when finally the building opens, by the end of 2009: The French Fashion Institute, exhibition halls, businesses, restaurants and event space. The new adjoining element in green, the colour of the river, will play the lead in the intervention and rejoining of circulation to give way to a public terrace that will be open 24 hours a day.
