Project published in a+t 33-34. HYBRIDS III. Residential Mixed-Use Buildings.

Courtillières is an example of a failure in modern urban planning. The neighbourhood, designed by Émile Aillaud towards the end of the 1950s, is currently undergoing different urban regeneration plans in order to slow down building deterioration and even more so, to improve the profound social unrest of the area.

As part of this strategy, the project is located in the middle of one of the empty spaces typical of open block urban planning. It proposes the stacking of functions in the building, faced with the zoning of that previous planning.

Housing units are built over a base in which a medical centre and chemist’s are located. Two interior patios show the activity of the clinic from the flats, whose balconies –the only balconies in the area— provide views of the neighbourhood.

Programme (percentage of the gross floor area): car park 23%, housing 52,6%, retail 2,2%, medical centre 22,2%
