Density is Home echoes the types of city -dispersed, expansive, modern, the core of the city and the recycled city- where we live today through 37 projects on collective housing.
Type 5: The recycled city
The dismantling of obsolete industries, the renovation of transport infrastructures or the relocation of distribution centres to more competitive facilities have generated large areas of opportunity. Recycling this land, close to downtown areas, gives many cities the possibility to grow on the inside. Enticing amounts of well-linked land are at stake meaning many developers are bidding for them. There are many different ways of managing this land and it is up to the public authorities to draw up plans which respect citizens’ rights yet also take financial viability into account*.
*Summary of the texts written by Javier Arpa, that introduce each type of city.
