Borja Peña. Toledo housing block. Toledo. Spain
June 26, 2010
This proposal won a competition to develop the city blocks of Toledo’s Barrio Avanzado, a master plan by Jean Nouvel and Mia Hägg, which involves 35 hectares and, in spite of its name (‘Advanced Neighborhood’), it does not bring on great advances in regards to the constants in recent Spanish urban planning, a disproportionate extension of free space serves as the background for these monofunctional unconnected blocks. The building takes on the role of a geographic feature isolated in the landscape and is meant to be a highly volumetric rock, made up of non-coplanar plans. The use of prefabricated materials is planned for its construction, as well as the use of a series of climatic and energy savings controls.
