X-TU. 172 dwellings in Nanterre. France
April 20, 2011
This project responds to a competition programme that proposed a vertical volumetric fragmentation that would lead to an urban profile variable to fragmented volumes.
On the south facade there are large six- to tenmetre openings that structure the organisation of the ground plan and provide transparency between the two streets that border the plot. The south facade presents a vertical fragmentation on an urban scale and its volumes respond to two scales, one larger and more monumental scale and another smaller one in relation to the street of the neighbourhood.
In the lower part, the volumes are joined in order to consolidate the architectural whole. The joining of the horizontal, vertical and transversal volumes forms a somewhat fragmented, yet coherent landscape in its diversity. The whole ensemble is sculpted in a common material and draws an urban silhouette on the background of the sky.
