Rueda Pizarro. Collective housing in Madrid. Spain
June 22, 2012
This project by the architects Rueda Pizarro forms part of the 53% of social collective housing stipulated in the planning regulations for the urban extension of Vallecas. These developments are subject to strict guidelines which make innovation in typology difficult and which bring uniformity to the housing programme. For this reason the architect frequently has to focus on the maximum build volume and the skin of the building. The plot is a square which occupies a quarter of a closed block which it shares with another three unrelated developments. In this context, the project is based on interpreting the planning regulations in order to obtain an architectural volume with its own identity.
