MAB Arquitectura. 184 dwellings in Milan. Italy
March 15, 2011

The intervention is located on a long and very narrow lot bordered to the south by the residential neighbourhood Gallaratese and to areas of future transformation to the north. Public space structures the project. In this way, the pedestrian linear park is closed with its green slopes to the motorway to the north and opens to play areas and community services to the south, towards the city.
Inside the park, four blocks of flats and their inner plazas are integrated with the more diluted green space, allowing ground floors to be porticoed and as transparent as possible, favouring the perceptive continuity of the park and the use of those shops.
The buildings present variable heights along the pedestrian walkway and are perforated by the avenue. They then turn to adapt to the route and become part of the slopes to the north. The finally rise with four towers to the south towards the consolidated city.
The homes are variations of four different types (mostly three- and four-bedrooms) and have cross-ventilation. They are arranged in each block in a way that the areas of daytime use face the west with balconies and loggias, while the areas of night time use face west.
