Edouard François. Eden Bio. Paris
September 28, 2009
Eden Bio is a construction comprised of 100 social apartments and ateliers for artists inside a city block in the East of Paris. Buildings aren’t almost visible from the street, and discovering the intervention requires a walk along two narrow alleys flanked by gardens that cross the site.
Both alleys border an apartment block with large exterior access staircases. Its façade includes an outer scaffolding that will allow plants to climb and become the external skin of the building.
The side bands of the site are occupied by row housing that imitate the form of the surrounding domestic architecture.
Materials are cheap: prefabricated red shingles, timber, zinc, copper, whitewash plaster and coarse concrete.
