Beckmann-N'Thépé Architectes. Saint Dominique social housing. Paris
Project published in NEXT Collective Housing in progress
June 25, 2010
This proposal is integrated into the existing historical fabric, introducing social housing on a lot in Hausmann’s bourgeois extension of the city. It is fragmented into several volumes to open up the block and, following Paris landscape tradition, it allows a view inside. The intervention looks to avoid stereotypes of social housing and to do that, it reconsiders certain trends such as the size of openings, entrance type and the presence of ornamentation. In regards to this ornamentation, it is worth mentioning the use of gold coloured metal pieces incrusted into the facade concrete which comes out of the borders of the cornices of the adjoining building.
