This project is part of a program which legally recognises the favelas and aims to enhance residents’ living conditions and guarantee social inclusion. A public use corridor was built. This is a 7 km long strip which connects up several open air facilities where plantations of native species of plants have been preserved and restored. The park opens up views from within the favela out to the reservoir; with this, a part of the illegally occupied lands passes into the hands of the collective. A walkway paved with permeable materials links up sports areas, seating areas, observation decks, platforms over the water and an open air cinema. The walls of the dwellings facing the park have been painted the colours of a project by the artist Mauricio Adinolfi.
a+t magazine 39-40, Reclaim, collects some of the actions in Cantinho do Ceu, such as:
- The introduction of sewerage systems into the informal city
- The introduction of public space into the informal city
