'Thank goodness for a+t.'
RIAS Quarterly reviews the book This is Hybrid
October 27, 2016
RIAS Quarterly magazine, The Journal of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, published an article by Graeme Hutton about the a+t research group's investigation on hybrid buildings, published in the book This is Hybrid.
As Hutton says, "the contribution of academe to the architectural research is vanishingly small, with the most substantial contributions to advancing the discipline emerging from vanguard practices. Thank goodness then for a+t and their grounded, wholly relevant research and associated publications - of which This is Hybrid - An Analysis of Mixed-use Buildings is a beautifully presented example."
The book presents "twenty sophisticated projects beautifully drawn and analysed for comparative data" and it is "an invaluable resource for practitioners and students."
Hutton adds: "That this buildings tend to be set in super-scale cities should not give us the impression that this research is not relevant in a Scottish practice context. The ideas are ultimately scale-able."
