The Third Ward district in Milwaukee is a former industrial neighbourhood which is fast becoming one of the most active areas in the city. Housing, stores and art galleries occupy the former industrial warehouses. The new square serves as a link between the walk which runs alongside the Milwaukee River from the business district and the green corridor which runs alongside the shore of Lake Michigan. A hybrid plan between a square and a park is adapted to the changing uses of a neighbourhood undergoing mutation and the climate constraints; this rebuilds the natural habitat of the lake shores and takes care of the frequent rising water levels.
