Selgascano. Dwellings in Vallecas. Madrid
March 21, 2011
The only materials in this project that interest us are the plants. The rest of the materials are obligatory, the metal mesh to hold up the plants and let them climb, the prefabricated concrete slabs of the structure and window closures, the glass on the facade to be able to enjoy the views of the greenery and the highest amount of light possible, and finally the continuous rubber floors. The landscaping project is basically meant to create a green facade with climbing plants.
The plant types chosen respond to the environmental and climatic conditions of Vallecas (Madrid) as they also are distributed on the facades according to the amount of sunlight that each side receives.
For each facade, a sunlight study was carried out. For the most extreme shade conditions, a sun-shade proportion was determined and was also used to decide the proportion of plant types requiring sun or shade on each facade.
Along the facade, these plant types are combined, only different in the way that they are anchored to the mesh. The planting of trees complements the proposal.
Both the trees and the climbing plants are watered using a drip system.
