Amir Lotan. Side Effect. Tel Aviv. Israel

Project published in a+t 39-40 Reclaim Remediate Reuse Recycle

Amir Lotan. Side Effect. Tel Aviv. Israel

Interstitial voids are often colonised by invasive plant species which grow spontaneously. The project pays homage to ruderal vegetation and its aesthetic value, identifying the different species found in the vicinity and planting them in this abandoned site.
At some points, the flooring has been perforated to enable the larger trees to be planted. Given the difficulties to implement the planned enclosure for the planting holes, the construction company proposed using old tyres found in the area. Around these, the waste from the demolished elements was accumulated and they were used to make a new asphalt-covered landscape. Planters for larger trees and shrubs were built into these mounds.
