Adapting this former annex of the Casa de la Caritat (Almshouse) into theatre and exhibition halls required incorporating several communication shafts which pierce the building vertically. The main shaft runs parallel to the facade of the former cloister and creates a vestibule the entire height of the unit, lit by a skylight in the roof. At basement level, a horizontal connection joins the building to the CCCB (Barcelona Contemporary Culture Centre) which it is part of.
