It was far easier to get lost and as a result more complicated to find a reference on the ground. The only things you could carry around with you were paper maps. Furthermore, you needed the help of local people. Getting to Nexus World in Fukuoka meant me getting involved in a game of orienteering using tactics of deduction and all the clues at hand. The time factor was also decisive. The location in one day of this new siedlung of Western architects who were building for the first time in Japan became a challenge. I also had to take into account the six hours lost in the round trip from our base in Kurashiki (a small town not unlike the medieval European cities in style and which in the end I never even had time to visit), to Fukuoka, almost on the Western tip of Japan. In spite of all this, it was well worth the effort.
