New foundations were excavated for the ramp and the exterior platform. A skylight was fitted in the kitchen and the building was connected to the rear courtyard. The platform and the new latticework structure were built and a roof terrace created. Aluminium strips were added to create a new landscape of moving shadows. 1 EPOXY COATING 2 DOUBLE GLAZED SKYLIGHT 3 FACADE LOUVER FRAME ALUMINIUM 4 HANDRAIL STEEL PIPE 5 INNOVATED WALL. The houses would often be designed by the local builder and modelled on either timber- or brick-built Western houses, with little concern for the setting or for the bamboo forests. The client was not happy in this brick house as he felt it did not match the landscape. The source of the project was the drawing of a line. A line drawn in space where the built environment meets the absolute. The line rises above the work and becomes a bent piece of metal holding energy within. Being able to control this material energy is dependent on mastery and expertise amassed over a long time. There is a close relationship between physical strength and geometrical dimensions. Es una estrecha relación entre fuerza física y dimensiones geométricas.108 1:500 1:500 Second floor plan Planta segunda 1:500 First floor plan Planta primera 1:500 Ground floor plan Planta baja RECLAIM SERIES BELONGS TO PROJECT: STUDIO BOOT Studio Boot + Hilberinkbosch Architecten ‘s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands) 2013 PRIVATE ACTIONS Transformation of a former garage into a dwelling and studio Transformación de un antiguo garaje en vivienda y estudio 027109 In downtown ‘s-Hertogenbosch a former garage had been vacant for over fifteen years. A couple, both designers, purchased the building and made it their dwelling and their workplace. While the facade was being restored, it was discovered that the original sign, later reclaimed, had been panelled over. Opening the sliding front doors reveals views through to the back garden. Outdoors, the only addition was four metal-roofed attic rooms. Mainly salvage materials were used in the renovation work. The volume forming the street front is an original brickwork construction. Behind this there is a steel-framed space with a skylight in the middle. DOMESTIC ACTIONS 2134 PRIVATE ACTIONS Adapting a garden to accesibility requirements Adaptación de un jardín a exigencias de accesibilidad RECLAIM SERIES BELONGS TO PROJECT: 033 TREE HOUSE 6a Architects Tower Hamlets, London (United Kingdom) 2013135 Tree House is the extension of two 1830-built grade II listed cottages based on the mother of the family finding herself reliant on a wheelchair. Choosing the garden as the location for a new adapted bedroom and bathroom was a result of accessibility criteria for persons of reduced mobility and the desire to have more contact with nature. This way the garden is made the focal point of the house. The 57 square metres new build adapts itself to the existing trees. To achieve maximum integration into the setting, reclaimed Jarrah wood cladding was used, both for the facade and the roof. The glazed gallery has a ramp which connects it to the level of the existing dwelling. The requirements of an access ramp, the visual connectivity and the original trees became positive constraints as guidelines for the project.
