This project won the fi rst prize in the competition organised by the City of Utrecht, though the jury’s decision did cause controversy. The structure, located next to the main station on the border of the old city, rises like a cloud to make way for the tram, building entrances and a public garden. Inside, a comprehensive cultural and residential programme is organised around two exterior patios, open to the city. one of the patios is for the library and the other for residents. Different users meet in the foyer on the fi rst fl oor, thus favouring communication between residents and visitors, who can enter the centre at any time of day. The shape of the building favours typological variations of housing units, such as studios, duplexes and luxury apartments. a+t hybrids Library ++ Smakkelaarsveld, Utrecht. the Netherlands, 2008-2012 VMX Architects vmxarchitects.nl Architect: Don Murphy project Manager: Leon Teunissen Contributors: Skafte Aymo-Boot, Brad Demby, Johan Selbing Client: Municipality of Utrecht 335 UTRECHT LIBrAry ++ Área de infl uencia Infl uence area: Utrecht Población population: 294.742 inhabitants Densidad Density: 2.970 inhab/km2 fuente de datos Data source: utrecht.nl, 2008 financiación Funds: public and private bluesky , 2009 SUPErfiCiE CoNStrUiDA groSS FLoor ArEA 45.150 m 2 SUPErfiCiE DE PArCELA pLoT ArEA 4.150 m 2 100% oCUPACióN CoVErED ArEA 8,83 EDifiCAbiLiDAD FLoor ArEA rATIo Contexto urbano Urban context 1:500.000135 a+t 33-34 2009 27 LIBrAry ++ Utrech 1:20.000 100%0% Usos Uses APArCAMiENto (CoCHES Y biCiCLEtAS CAr/BIKE pArK CoMErCioS ShoppIng CíViCo CIVIC EDUCACióN EDUCATIon ViViENDA LIVIng HotEL hoTEL CULtUrA CULTUrE ViViENDA/ofiCiNA LIVE/WorK UnIT DEPortE SporT otroS oThEr ofiCiNAS oFFICES Sección B Section 1:1.000 25 48140 a+t 33-34 2009 Sección C Section 1:500 Nivel 3 Level 1:500 1 VEStíbULo 2 MoStrADor gENErAL DE iNforMACióN 3 MoStrADor DE iNforMACióN DE LA bibLiotECA 4 ESPACio PArA grUPoS 5 SALA DE LECtUrA DE PrENSA 6 CAfé-bAr 7 CENtro DE ArtE 8 bAr 9 CAfEtEríA 10 bibLiotECA 11 ViViENDAS 12 PAtio CUbiErto 13 SALA iNfANtiL 14 CiNE C C141 a+t 33-34 2009 Nivel 8 Level Nivel 4 Level 1 LoBBy 2 CEnTrAL InForMATIon CoUnTEr 3 InForMATIon CoUnTEr LIBrAry 4 groUp SpACE 5 prESS rEADIng rooM 6 BAr-CAFE 7 ArTS CEnTrE 8 BAr 9 CAFE 10 LIBrAry 11 hoUSIng 12 BELVEDErE 13 ChILDrEn’S rooM 14 CInEMAa+t Revista independiente de aRquitectuRa+tecnología no contiene publicidad pRimaveRa-otoño 2009 númeRo 33-34 independent magazine of architecture+tecnology free of advertising spring-autumn 2009 issue 33-34 www.aplust.net 52,6 2,2 22,2 23 87 4 4 3 1,2 0,6 0,2 66,7 5,6 4,4 14 7,4 1,9 40 10 10 10 5 10 5 10 15,5 35 31,7 17,8 27 25 48 40 5 35 10 2 6 2 4,5 25 34 6,5 30 69 5 2 24 51,8 15,8 32,4 37 25,2 2,2 3,5 6,5 25,6 10 25 1,5 16 25 10 2,5 8 1 1 36 15 0,3 22 20 6,7 45,6 2,2 30,1 3 13,6 1 4,5 71,7 5 6,6 16,7Next >
