Turning the past into design generator. The existing trees

The traces of the past justify many of the programme, composition or material decisions shaping this public space. These arguments are easily understood both by the political authorities who commission the spaces and by the public who are the end users. It is up to the designer to search for a middle ground between solid memory and hollow nostalgia.

The layout of the trunks determined the design of the new skate park. A protective relief was built around each tree using EPS foam blocks, shaping the installations.
