Water or river fronts, occupied by the declining harbour infrastructures or activities, require ambitious regeneration projects because it is here where many hopes lie. These are interventions which involve large amounts of public resources and although the city might aim to achieve a unified final image, it is necessary to foresee the project broken down into sections which are to be implemented independently.
At the Erie Street Plaza the surface area mixes hard paving with grass lawns. The ratio between the different treatments of the plan allows flexible scheduling of collective occasional activities or the individual regular use of the spaces.
