When the city slows down its plans for growth or internal renovation, the plots generated become an opportunity to occupy the space temporarily with public activities. The short
life span of these voids permits a certain experimentation in terms of form, while at the same time requiring the use of reversible building solutions adapted to very limited budgets.
In Dessau, demolishing several housing blocks in the historic centre released space to display the Roman remains in a square made from stabilized sand.
