The recycling of a dairy plant gives way to a university campus in the district of Zurich West, a former industrial area in transformation, to whom it will serve as centre of activity. The problem of its large scale is dealt with by treating the project from an urban point of view. A vertical public boulevard runs along the building and integrates it with the city. Meanwhile, each part of the programme is differentiated so that users can identify with and control the space they use. The restoration works are based on a minimum intervention on the building’s original industrial character. Patios have been perforated to allow light to enter and the facade will be covered with a metal mesh.
