Dbook. Examples of density (1)

a+t research group carried out an exhaustive analysis in the publication Dbook on collective housing’s contribution to the dense city covering 64 projects. Based on indicators such as floor area ratio, population density, building volumes, heights and uses, a comparative analysis giving examples of dense living was attained. With this forthcoming series of posts we would like to show some of the most significant examples contained in the book.

The graphs shown here analyze the Kengo Kuma project in Shinonome, Tokyo. Shinonome follows a strategy to accomplish the need for subsidized housing with a rich variety of types and, at the same time, diverts the attention from the five private speculative towers located beside. There is a big proportion of live-work units, a very demanded typology in Japán. Great intensity, but, however, the interior public space remains in proportions, producing a balsamic effect, pointing-up that density is a subjective concept, shaped by other factors.

The data displayed in the diagrams refers to the comparative analysis of all the projects included in Dbook.
