Courtillières is an example of a failure in modern urban planning. The neighbourhood, designed by Émile Aillaud towards the end of the 1950s, is currently undergoing different urban regeneration plans in order to slow down building deterioration and even more so, to improve the profound social unrest of the area.

While climbing the steep and bustling road of Ménilmontant the student residence slowly reveals itself in a series of paradoxes: deeply rooted in the context of the Parisian apartment block, it also stands out as something unexpected and intriguing.

Project published in HoCo Density Housing Construction and Costs

We include in our book HoCo this apartment building for students inserted in the motley fabric of the 20th district. Its façade over Ménilmontant Street is divided into three volumes as response to the different scales of the adjacent buildings. Its aluminium louvers, stainless shutters and the fuchsia coated entry hall cheer up the stroll up the popular street.
