The 2ndHAND series examines the transformation of existing buildings and environments from a contemporary standpoint: activating what already exists. In contrast to exhausted monofunctional models, it proposes open-ended processes that introduce new uses, agents and modes of management. These transformations embrace ambiguity, fragmentation and the loss of coherence as intrinsic to the project.

Project published in a+t 49: Dwelling Mixers. Complex Buildings series.
We have returned for the third time to the new neighborhood of Bassins á flot to see the vegetation grown and most of the projects completed. The compactness of the design breathes through squares, pedestrian paths and large courtyards.

This work of collective housing by the architects S333 is a project with multi-layers based on the program and the urban landscape.
CiBoGa is a hybrid comprising three uses: residential, retail and parking. There are four types of units: row housing, apartment with vertical circulation core access, apartment with access through shared communal space and high-rise apartment with access through glazed galleries.

In 2003, MVRDV together with Norwegian firms Dark and A-lab, won the competition for the Bjørvika waterfront development with the design of the Bjørvika Barcode, a dense urban masterplan along Nyland Allé, which will be developed and realised by Oslo S Utvikling (OSU) in different phases. The masterplan comprises 220,000 m2 of mixed pro.
