As this is a fairly deep plot, the courtyard or atrium becomes the key element in the spatial layout. The closed offices are positioned bordering the exterior perimeter of the built volume and from there a sequence of spaces commences which gradually opens out until it reaches the parapet over the central void. The 3 m height between floor slabs enables visual connectivity throughout the bay from the atrium to the street so that the staff have a full panorama of the whole floor and the comings and goings of their colleagues. The meeting rooms look onto the void.

The building is laid out around a central void, something common in financial organizations, in a way that it is bordered by the circulations and the work areas are concentrated on the facade areas. This layout favour sightlines throughout the whole building from the lobby which was one of the client’s main objectives in an aim to give the impression of this being an engaged banking organization. In addition to this, an open auditorium was inserted into the lobby functioning as an infor.

The building houses the offices and the production rooms of an electronic precision components firm. The programme is based on parallel strips which contain the design and production areas and these are divided off by a central garden and connected by walkways.   The simplicity of the materials employed –concrete, glass and untreated aluminium– does not subtract from this being a pleasant environment, clearly shown in the central courtyard around which activity is centred.

In this river traffic control building the envelope is the main feature and the vertical elevations have been fitted with silkscreen printed glass panes. Given the location of the unit, at a central point where canals, streets and vegetation intersect, this choice of silkscreen printing darkens the glass enough to reflect the environment and to blend in with the trees in the background. In addition, the density of the dots printed on the glass increases at slab level and decreases at the visible area between floors, with a progression which does not interfere with the legibility of the facade as a skin only interrupted by the structural silicone. The curvature of the envelope enhances visibility in all directions.

The urban plan of Richti Quartier, into which the building is inserted, is the work of Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani, and the condition for the design was that stone be used as the material for the facade. However, Wiel Arets chose to subvert this rule and to replace the stone with a representation of this element. In this way, the planned stone facade of this office building became a glass curtain-wall with a silk screen print representing the veins of the onyx used in the 1929 International E.

This building was inserted into the general plan designed by OMA for Euralille, the expansion of the French city of Lille, in 1994. Within this plan, the plot is located on the Îlot Saint Maurice, developed by Xaveer de Geyter as part of a compact mixed city.   The Euroavenir Tower faces away from the Cimetière de l’Est and towards the bridge which joins the new neighbourhood with the international train station. It boasts visual perspectives from a total of 4 streets.

In the early 1950s, Chamberlin, Powell and Bon had little experience in building residential complexes. They were focused on their academic work and only had one ongoing project. They entered the Golden Lane competition as individual entrants among a total of 178 projects, and Geoffry Powell’s project emerged as the winning proposal. They honoured their prior agreement that if one of them was to win they would jointly develop the project. They subsequently se.
