The High Line is a 1.2-mile long abandoned elevated freight rail line along the west side of  lower Manhattan. This 5.9 acre stretch of open space spans 20 city blocks in between and through buildings from Gansevoort Street, through the meat  packing district and West Chelsea, up to 30th Street, ending at the Hudson Rail Yards...

The 130 x 130 m block, one of the largest in the urban-plan, is divided into four sections by pedestrian roads. The commercial spaces in the plinth have zigzagging façades above which the housing block 'floats' independently. The circulation routes, that slice through the volume, prevent a massive, wall-like appearance. They widen at their intersection, forming a plaza that is marked by a small 10-floor tower on stilts.
