In this students’ dormitory, the focus of our design is the quality of the housing we are providing. Here, the size of the project and the zoning envelope require a double loaded corridor as the primary organizational system. We have animated this sequence with a series of internal courts that are linked together throughout the building. In addition to enlivening the circulation sequence, these spaces become the lungs of the building. Fresh air enters at the ground floor from the rear g.

The singularity of the city block and its current configuration have created a plot that all of the back patios and centres of buildings with up to four storeys can pour into. The objective of the proposal is to reestablish that interior to create a uniform and complete block.

The only materials in this project that interest us are the plants. The rest of the materials are obligatory, the metal mesh to hold up the plants and let them climb, the prefabricated concrete slabs of the structure and window closures, the glass on the facade to be able to enjoy the views of the greenery and the highest amount of light possible, and finally the continuous rubber floors.

Ailsa Street is a 4.7 hectare site in the lower Lea Valley in East London that became isolated from Poplar when the A12 road was created in the 1960’s. Once cut off from the surrounding urban fabric, the site has become increasingly treated as a back, occupied by scrap dealers, refuse recycling and fly tippers.
